Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Abides by the Medical Staff by Laws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department/division.
  • Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.
  • Carries out full range of clinical duties in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the outpatient clinic, as assigned by the Medical Director/Head of Department in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.
  • Participates in the planning of further developments in the department.
  • Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects.
  • Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Management Programme, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as applicable.
  • To oversee regular medical audit of the within his/her care, and on the basis of this to organize prospective studies of medical topics of current importance in the department.
  • Shares emergency calls with the other Consultants.
  • To be available and accessible for referrals and consultations from other disciplines, according to his/her interests and special experience.
  • Deputizes for the Chief of the Department during leave periods if so required and shares workload in his specialty during absence of colleagues.
  • Participates in Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated.
  • Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the Head of Department and Director of Postgraduate and Academic Affairs in planning a programme of career development for trainees.
  • Teaches, assists, and trains all residents and registrars in the full range of required procedures, related to their experience and stage of training.
  • Supervise and train the Residents and Registrars and participates in the formal Neonatology residency-training program as required.
  • Supervise Residents and Registrars in Neonatology research, investigations, and reporting as required.
  • Assists in the training, teaching, supervision and assessment of trainee technicians, specialists and others as required.
  • Provide classroom lectures to students, trainees or presentations to healthcare providers as required.
  • Takes part in teaching program lectures, seminars, tutorials etc.
  • Participates in CQI&PS System Control Activities, Staff Development, Environmental Safety Awareness and Fire and Safety Practices, Disaster, CPR and Infection Control.
  • Participate in Community activities as related to health education and patient education practice.
  • Perform other dutiesand tasks within the scope of his/her knowledge, skills, and abilities.
